Sell smarter not harder during Cyber Week

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for holiday shoppers and sellers alike, with Cyber Week just around the corner. From Black Friday to Cyber Monday on eBay in 2022, eBay sellers experienced huge sales volume, with shoppers on the hunt for the best deals across a range of categories. To help our sellers make the most of the holiday shopping season this year, we’ve uncovered some key shopper insights such as the most popular items, brands, and searches on eBay during Cyber Week.

And don’t forget: our 2023 Holiday Guide uncovered that one-third (33%) of surveyed respondents say they are very influenced by ads during the holidays, with more than 50% of gifts they purchase being different from what they originally intended to purchase, due to ads. What is your advertising strategy this season?

Cyber Week buyers shopped top brands in 2022

As shoppers searched for the latest Fashion trends to gift others or themselves, Nike emerged as the top purchased Fashion brand. Legos grew during Cyber Week by 62% compared to the rest of the year, while other toy brands that made the nice list were Hot Wheels and Hasbro.

Topps and Panini were the most purchased brands overall, including by Gen Z and Millennials. This category also saw Funko, Nintendo, and Disney on the top brands list. PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) was one of the top searched keywords, indicating collectors’ interest in verified authenticity.

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, shoppers were eager to purchase electronics and gadgets for gifts or for themselves. In the Electronics category, JBL, Apple, Nintendo, and Samsung were the most purchased brands.

Millennials and GenZ shop differently during Cyber Week

Knowing the variation between age demographics can greatly affect how you advertise your listings to get in front of the right shoppers ready to buy. It was revealed in our 2023 Holiday Guide that Millennial (ages 35-44) shoppers spent the most (70%) above their expected budget. On Black Friday last year, Gen Z eBay shoppers’ top searched items on the marketplace included Apple Watch, Carhartt Jacket, Gaming Laptop, iPhone 11, and Nintendo Switch.
