Promoted Listings: What campaign type is right for you

Advertising technology is a major part of eBay’s tech led reimagination. Over the past few months, we’ve expanded our offering of advertising solutions to make eBay the best online marketplace for sellers to grow their business further. Our evolving Promoted Listings portfolio offers sellers of all sizes different ways to boost visibility and drive sales, by choosing the campaign type that’s right for their business.

Overview of each Promoted Listings campaign type

Let’s take a look at the different features, available to Above Standard and Top Rated sellers with enough account activity, in our Promoted Listings portfolio.

Promoted Listings Standard

New name, same campaign type. Promoted Listings Standard is what most sellers are already familiar with. If you’ve never tried Promoted Listings Standard, think of it as our most popular way to dip your toes into advertising on eBay, as it offers high flexibility and a lower barrier to entry.

Promoted Listings Standard ads are shown across the entire eBay network. With Promoted Listings Standard, you’re in control. Choose the percentage of a sale you’re willing to spend on ads and pay no money upfront. And here’s the best part, sellers only pay when you sell a promoted item within 30 days of the buyer’s click. This effective ads tool minimizes your risk and maximizes your impact. Sellers have the power to set the ad rate that’s right for their business, decide what to list, and make modifications to the campaign. It’s quick, simple and a unique to market way to increase sales and grow further on eBay.

Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA

Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is an exciting new campaign type in our portfolio for sellers looking for another option to increase traffic to their listings, with increased control of their campaigns. While this feature is still in its infancy, sellers have already found success using it

Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is not a replacement for Promoted Listings Standard. In fact, they’re meant to complement one another. Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is a cost-per-click (CPC) campaign model specifically targeting premium placements in search on eBay. Sellers have the control to create a daily budget to bid on keywords of their choosing.

For sellers unsure if Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is right for them, here are a few considerations to think of based on the successes we’ve seen from early adopters.

Evaluate your experience running CPC models on other platforms. One of the main reasons we built Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA was because sellers told us they wanted a tool to help accelerate sales velocity and leverage learnings from other channels. Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA lets you take those combined learnings and apply them to eBay’s unique audience.

Think about how important keyword relevancy, listing quality, and search popularity is for your inventory. New and unique products, priced right, will stand out the most on eBay. Using Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA to bid against specific keywords will help give your listings more discoverability against other products.

Finally, review this checklist to help determine if Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is right for you:

  1. I have new or trending inventory that can competitively target slot 1 in search
  2. I have experience running and optimizing cost-per-click campaign types
  3. I have items with high prices better suited for cost-per-click campaign types
  4. I want the ability to control my daily advertising budget
  5. I have popular items that need more visibility to begin performing well

Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA is still undergoing development and growing to fit the needs of our sellers. We’ve created a group in our eBay Community for sellers to join and share feedback, and Seller Center has an excellent FAQ page about Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA that’s constantly being updated.

We’ve also launched Ads Academy, a self-paced e-learning platform containing tutorials, articles and more focused on our new Advanced campaign type on eBay. Sellers can access Ads Academy through their advertising dashboard on eller Hub. The Ads Academy link lives at the top of the Advanced campaign management page, which you can access either by editing an existing Advanced campaign or by clicking on the create new campaign button and selecting the Advanced campaign type.

With all these tools in hand, we encourage sellers to test launching your first Promoted Listings AdvancedBETA campaign today.
